More About Michael Vick Eagles Jerseys
Life is all about second chances, and Michael Vick is making the most of his. Vick was a college football star with Virginia Tech, putting up huge numbers and finishing third in Heisman Trophy voting as a freshman. His world class ability got the notice of the Atlanta Falcons and they selected the young quarterback first overall in the 2001 NFL Draft.
Like most quarterbacks, Vick was not an immediate superstar in the NFL. He was used sparingly in his first season, putting up mediocre numbers. However, it was readily apparent that Vick had the skill set needed to be a starting NFL quarterback. All he needed was a little seasoning in order to become the star the Falcons had bet on when they selected him first overall.
Over the next several seasons he improved rapidly, though an injury in 2003 proved a setback. His stats didn't always reflect his performance on the field. Vick's ability to throw or run depending on the situation made him a double threat on every snap, and his ability to scramble and turn a potential loss into a big gain made him a nightmare to defend.
Things started to fall off the rails for Vick in 2006. That season he was criticized for showing his middle finger to Atlanta fans. That only scratched the surface of his self destruction. In 2007, Vick pleaded guilty to charges stemming from a dog fighting ring investigation. Vick went to prison, was suspended indefinitely by the NFL, and was forced to declare bankruptcy as his personal debts mounted.
The Atlanta Falcons washed their hands of Vick, but in August of 2009 he got his second chance, signing with the Philadelphia Eagles as a back-up to Donovan McNabb. Vick saw action sparingly that season, but had flashes of brilliance in the rare games he got into.
2010 was another stepping stone in Vick's climb back to greatness. After McNabb was traded to the Washington Redskins, Kevin Kolb was named the Eagles' new starter by head coach Andy Reid. However, Vick made the coach change his mind, playing brilliantly every shot he got, and earning the starting position.
Since then Vick has been setting the league on fire, including one amazing game where he threw for four touchdowns and rushed for two more. An injury to his ribs set him back briefly, but he returned after a brief hiatus and showed no ill effects from his injury. Now he is in the conversation to be the NFL's MVP this year, and leads the league in Pro Bowl voting.
Fans and media have apparently forgiven Vick his past transgressions and seem to be willing to give this supremely talented athlete another shot. With his rapid rise to superstardom in 2010 it is little wonder that Michael Vick Eagles jerseys are flying off the shelves in Philadelphia and around the country.
