Going into the 2010 NHL Entry Draft scouts around the league were as torn as they’d ever been. The source of their difficulties? Determining whether Taylor Hall of the Windsor Spitfires or Tyler Seguin of the Plymouth Whalers should be the #1 overall pick. The Edmonton Oilers got to make the fateful choice and opted for Hall. The Boston Bruins got the second pick and were delighted to land Seguin. Time will tell which team got the best player.
There is no question that Tyler Seguin is destined to be a star in the NHL one day. While Hall had the benefit of playing for a powerful team in Windsor, Seguin had to all but go it alone on a relatively weak Plymouth Whalers squad. Despite a dearth of supporting talent Seguin shone with his junior club, racking up 48 goals and 106 points in just 63 games in his final year of junior.
With the ongoing injury situation surrounding Bruins’ star center Marc Savard the door is wide open for Seguin to crack the lineup in his first NHL training camp, and he would likely find himself slotting into one of the top two lines and playing with highly gifted offensive players. Such an opportunity would give him a good chance of racking up points and would give him a legitimate shot at the Calder Trophy. Should these things come to pass you can bet Bruins fans will be lining up to get their hands on a Tyler Seguin jersey.
