About David Clarkson

At 6'1" 200 lbs David Clarkson might not sound like your prototypical power forward, yet his fearlessness and his abrasive play has seen him settle comfortably into that role thus far in his career. With the New Jersey Devils he showed he was equally capable of scoring a big goal, throwing a big hit, or dropping the mitts to defend a teammate. It was this combination of characteristics that prompted the Leafs to reward Clarkson with a rich contract, luring him to Toronto once he hit unrestricted free agency.

So far, Clarkson's impact hasn't been what the Leafs hoped for - at least on the score sheet. His season got off to a rocky start after he was slapped with a 10 game suspension for leaving the bench when he came to the aid of teammate Phil Kessel. Though it might not have been the wisest move it did endear him both to the fans and his teammates and both got a glimpse of what this warrior brings to the table even when he is not contributing on the score sheet.

However, fans that are worried that Clarkson's 2 goals and 5 points are a sign of things to come needn't worry. Clarkson is too talented to stay mired in this slump for long, and once he regains the form that saw him score 30 goals a couple of seasons ago the Leafs will be a force to be reckoned with in the east.
