Though never an NHL star, Mike Eruzione carved his name in hockey history, particularly with the USA, with his performance at the 1980 Winter Olympics. It was there in Lake Placid that Mike Eruzione established himself as a national hero, captaining the underdog Team USA team to an improbable victory against the powerful Soviet squad in what became known as the Miracle on Ice. Not only did he provide leadership in that game, but timely offense as well, potting the game-winning goal, and propelling the USA into the gold medal game where they captured Olympic glory by beating Team Finland.
