Dallas Stars Snapback Hats
Though they weren't always located in the Lone Star State the Stars are actually one of the original franchises that came into being when the NHL doubled in size, going from six teams to twelve. For the first two-plus decades of their existence they were the Minnesota North Stars. However, financial realities forced the team to seek a new home in the south and in 1993 the club pulled up stakes and moved to Dallas.
During the latter half of the 90s the Stars rose to prominence as one of the NHL's powerhouse teams. Led by American-born superstar Mike Modano, hard-nosed defenseman Derian Hatcher, Hall of Fame goalie Eddie Belfour and coach Ken Hitchcock the Stars continued to improve, peaking in 1999 when they reached their first Stanley Cup Final since 1991 when the team was still located in Minnesota. In a defensive struggle for the ages, Eddie Belfour and the Stars outdueled Dominik Hasek and the Buffalo Sabres, winning game six in OT on a controversial Brett Hull goal to take home the franchise's first championship. The Stars would reach the finals again the following season, but were ousted by Martin Brodeur and the New Jersey Devils.
Today's Dallas Stars are in rebuilding mode, having lost superstar Brad Richards to the New York Rangers through unrestricted free agency this past off-season. However, with young stars like Loui Eriksson and Jamie Benn coming into their own the Stars should be able to hold their own and contend for a playoff spot in 2011-12. Cheer on your Stars.
