More About Claude Giroux
When they selected Claude Giroux in the first round, 22nd overall in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft there is no doubt that the Philadelphia Flyers had high hopes for this talented winger who’d starred for the Gatineau Olympiques of the QMJHL. However, as high as expectations were, you can bet the Flyers are pleasantly surprised by his contributions so far.
After three straight 100+ point seasons with the Olympiques, Giroux had no trouble making the transition to professional hockey. Playing for the Flyers’ AHL affiliate, the Philadelphia Phantoms, Giroux put up 34 points in 33 games during the 2008-09 season, earning a call up from the big club. Giroux would continue to produce at the highest level, notching 27 points in 42 games, and then adding an additional 5 points in 6 post-season appearances.
Giroux enjoyed a decent regular season in 2009-10, tallying 47 points in 82 games, but it was in the playoffs that he really made his mark. Giroux was a huge reason the Flyers went all the way to game 6 of the Stanley Cup Finals, averaging nearly a point a game during that run and finishing with 10 goals and 21 points in 23 games played.
He has continued to build on that momentum, continuing to score at nearly a point a game clip in the 2010-11 season. With his consistent production and his penchant for making highlight reel plays, Giroux has quickly turned into a fan favorite, and Claude Giroux jerseys are a hot commodity for Flyers fans everywhere.
