Carolina Hurricanes Snapback Hats
Originally the Hartford Whalers, the Carolina Hurricanes came into being in 1997 after economic realities forced the Whalers to relocate.
Though success wasn’t instantaneous following the move the Hurricanes did eventually rise to contention, reaching the Stanley Cup Finals in 2002 before they succumbed to the powerful Detroit Red Wings.
In 2006 the Hurricanes got another shot at Lord Stanley’s mug. After going down 2 games to nothing to the Montreal Canadiens in the first round the Hurricanes made a bold move, sitting starting netminder Martin Gerber in favor of promising rookie Cam Ward. The move turned out to be a wise one. Ward was phenomenal, helping the Hurricanes come back against the Habs and backstopping them all the way to a Stanley Cup Finals date with the surprising Edmonton Oilers. This time they would not be denied, winning the series and the cup in seven hard fought games. Cam Ward won the Conn Smythe as playoff MVP.
Today’s Hurricanes might not quite be ready to hoist another Stanley Cup, but there is plenty for fans to be excited about. Cam Ward and superstar foward Eric Staal are now in their prime, and Jeff Skinner is coming off a Calder Trophy winning season and is looking to elevate his game even more in his sophomore year.
