About Brendan Gallagher

At the start of the 2012-13 season all the rookie hype surrounded #3 overall draft pick Alex Galchenyuk. Galchenyuk did not disappoint, putting up a more than respectable 27 points in 48 games. Yet despite his strong numbers Galchenyuk found himself overshadowed by another Habs rookie, one that came seemingly out of nowhere from the perspective of fans, media and probably even his coach. Brendan Gallagher impressed early on with his relentless work ethic, his fearless play and his ability to put the puck in the net. He trumped Galchenyuk’s point total, notching 15 goals and 28 points. His strong play earned him a spot as a Calder Trophy finalist for rookie of the year. He ultimately lost out to Florida’s Jonathan Huberdeau, but many around the league believed that Gallagher’s intangibles and his more complete game should have earned him the award.

This year Gallagher has picked up where he left off. He continues to be a thorn in the side of his opposition, has contributed offensively and seems to be a spark for his linemates no matter what combination of players coach Michel Therrien puts him alongside. Fans of the Habs will hopefully enjoy many years of watching this entertaining player in a Montreal Canadiens jersey.
