When John Tavares broke Wayne Gretzky’s goal record as a 16 year old all expectations were that this guy would be a no-brainer for the number one draft pick in 2009. However, since then he has seen his stock drop, and at one point this season he found himself rated as the number two prospect by central scouting. Well, so far in the World Junior Championship warm-up games Tavares doubters are nowhere to be found, and he is making a statement that he is still the guy who deserves to go number one at the upcoming NHL draft.
Tavares was dynamite again tonight in a 7-0 drubbing of Slovakia. He potted a pair of goals, including one incredible hand-eye play where he bats the puck out of the air to himself and then bats it into the net.
