There is another NHL star on the injury shelf. The news broke out of Philadelphia today that Six and a half Million Dollar Man, Daniel Briere will be sidelined for 4-5 weeks with a groin strain. This is just the latest in a series of injuries for the skilled, diminutive forward who has managed to suit up for the Flyers in just nine games this season. When he has been in the lineup he has been reasonably effective, scoring 5 goals and 4 assists for a point a game average.

The Flyers, for their part, haven’t been suffering on offense in Briere’s absence, scoring 80 goals so far in just 24 games. They have had surprising contributions from both Jeff Carter (18 goals) and Simon Gagne (31 points). With a healthy Briere in their lineup the Flyers could just become the Beast in the East, and will be handful for any opposing defensive core come playoff time.
