Logan Couture
One of the most talented young players in the game today, Logan Couture made the most of his opportunity with the San Jose Sharks last season. One of the NHL’s perennial powerhouses and loaded with talent up front the Sharks weren’t an easy team to crack. However, after paying his dues with the AHL’s Worcester Sharks and proving he could score at the professional level, Couture was given his chance and ran with it. Last season the 2007 #9 overall draft pick racked up 32 goals and 56 points, and was in the conversation along with Michael Grabner and Jeff Skinner as the NHL’s best freshman. He was second to only Grabner in goals among rookies, second to Skinner in points, first in game winning goals, powerplay goals, shots and plus/minus. Little wonder the Sharks signed him to an extension this off-season.
With the acquisition of Brent Burns and Martin Havlat in the off-season the Sharks look like they might be poised to final exorcise the Stanley Cup playoff demons of years past, and Couture will be a big part of that.
