More about Toronto Maple Leafs tickets

With a tradition and history that rivals that of arch-rivals the Montreal Canadiens, the Toronto Maple Leafs have been one of the NHL's greatest franchises over the better part of the last century. With 13 Stanley Cups under their belt, this storied franchise has won more championships than anyone save the Canadiens. Despite the fact that their last Stanley Cup victory came in 1967 - more than 40 years ago - the club continues to have one of the most devoted fanbases in the league, and tickets to a game at the Air Canada Centre, and at the former Maple Leaf Gardens, is and always has been the hottest ticket in town.

History of the Toronto Maple Leafs

Going way back into the annals of NHL history you'll find that the Maple Leafs hasn't always been the moniker of this legendary team. Before the patriotic Conn Smythe dubbed his club the Maple Leafs, they had previously been known as the Blueshirts, Shamrocks, Marlboros, Arenas and St. Patricks. In fact, 2 of the franchise's 13 Stanley Cups were earned under different names. They won their first cup in 1918 as the Toronto Arenas, and their second in 1922 as the St. Patrick's. The next 11 championships would all come as Toronto Maple Leafs.

Over the years the Toronto Maple Leafs jerseys underwent significant changes, switching from a green and white sweater to a blue jersey with white stripes and a 47-point maple leaf on the chest. The maple leaf would remain, but the number of points would be reduced to just 11, which can be seen on today's RBK Edge jerseys.

Toronto Maple Leafs Legends

With a history going back more than 90 years it is little wonder that the Maple Leafs have seen some true legends grace their roster. Syl Apps and Turk Broda were among the earliest Leafs superstars. They gave way to Tim Horton, Red Kelly, Ted "Teeder" Kennedy, Johnny Bower, Frank Mahovlich and Dave Keon. The 1970s would see the rise of of Darryl Sittler and Borje Salming. More recent stars to wear Maple Leafs jerseys include Wendel Clark, Doug Gilmour and Mats Sundin.

Whether the newest crop of stars led by Phil Kessel and Dion Phaneuf can do what Sittler, Clark and Sundin before them could not - win a Stanley Cup - remains to be seen, but one thing is as certain that the sun will rise tomorrow: Win or lose the fans of the city of Toronto will continue to support their beloved Maple Leafs.
