There have been some strange incidents in the NHL in the past few days. First we see Sidney Crosby jump Brett McLean, then we witness Alexander Semin try and play the bongos on Marc Staal's face. However, not to be outdone, superpest Jarkko Ruutu was involved in an even more bizarre incident tonight as his Senators faced the Sabres. Ruutu apparently took exception to Andrew Peters giving him a facewash, so he chomped down on Peters' hand. Peters still had his glove on, but apparently Jarkko bit down hard because you can see the surprise and pain on Peters' face, and he immediately drops the glove and wrings his hand.

Peters was interviewed about the biting incident after the game, and was justifiably irked, stating that he hadn't seen anything like that since the Tyson Holyfield fight, and that the league would be looking at the incident.

As for Ruutu, who knows what was going on in his head. Was the bite purely reactionary, or is he trying to fill the shoes of Sean Avery as the NHL's new most hated player? At least Ruutu keeps his shenanigans on the ice, but if he keeps pulling stunts like this one it won't be long before the NHL's disciplinarians straighten him out.

Here is the video of Jarkko Ruutu biting Andrew Peters:

Chris Neil is one of the most devastating hitters in the NHL, no doubt about it. Don't believe me? Just ask Nick Foligno. Foligno was the unfortunate and unintended recipient of a thundering Chris Neil bodycheck last night in the game between the Ottawa Senators and the New Jersey Devils. No, Neil is not colorblind. He was actually lining up New Jersey Devil Andy Greene along the side boards. Greene saw Neil coming and managed to mostly avoid the collision. Foligno, just behind Greene, wasn't so fortunate, taking the full force of Neil's formidable hitting prowess. He lay in a heap on the ice while David Clarkson of the New Jersey Devils challenged Neil to a fight. Obviously Clarkson was responding to Neil's intent, rather than the result of the bodycheck, as Clarkson's teammate Greene was unhurt. Check out the video of Neil's hit on Foligno and the Neil vs Clarkson fight below:

Chris Neil is one of the most punishing hitters in the NHL, and Atlanta Thrasher Bryan Little gained first-hand knowledge of just how much of a wallop Chris Neil really packs. Little stayed down on the ice for a bit following this huge collision, but give him full marks for shaking it off relatively quickly. I'd be down on the ice for a week if I got hit like that. Ultimately it was Little and his Atlanta Thrashers teammates that had the last laugh as they went on to hand Ottawa a humbling 4-1 defeat. Watch the video footage of this massive hit below:
