Nashville's Jordin Tootoo is one tough customer, but he was definitely one the receiving end of a beatdown last night when his Predators faced the San Jose Sharks. Tootoo managed to get a couple of shots in early, but then Staubitz got in a rhythm and started feeding Tootoo a steady diet of left hands. You've got to credit Tootoo though. He stood in there and took his lumps. Still, he might want to think about playing a little defense once in a while. He came out of the fight looking pretty bruised and bloodied. Quite a game between the Washington Capitals and the Nashville Predators last night. Plenty of hits, fights, and a little overtime drama to cap it off. Washington tough guy Donald Brashear had the worst night of anybody out there though. First he got crushed by a massive hit by Nashville's angry little wrecking ball, Jordin Tootoo (who then went on to destroy Matt Bradley in a scrap), and then he got into a dust-up with Nashville's heavyweight, Wade Belak. The fight looked like it might be a good old fashioned toe to toe battle for about the first 5 seconds, then Belak landed a hard left squarely on Brashear's chin, and Brashear's legs just folded up under him. Belak showed some mercy and let up, and showed more class than Brashear normally does by not dusting off his hands afterwards. Can't remember ever seeing Brashear lose a fight so convincingly. Hopefully it will teach him a little humility and some respect for his fellow pugilists.

There was no shortage of nastiness in last night's game between the Vancouver Canucks and the Nashville Predators, and things really boiled over when Rob Davison of the Canucks caught Scott Nichol with a hard clean hit in front of the Canucks bench. Davison got such a good piece of Nichol that he almost went flying into his own bench. Nichol was on his hands and knees on the ice for several seconds before finally struggling woozily to his feet. A large scrum ensued that culminated in a scrap between Jason Jaffray of the Canucks and Rich Peverley of the Predators.

Tempers were high throughout the remainder of the game, and the intensity of the rivalry between these two teams should ensure that the rematch on New Years day should enjoy a wide viewership. Here is the video clip of Davison's big hit on Nichol:
