2012 Philadelphia Flyers Winter Classic Jersey
With the calendar flipping over to 2012 in just a few days hockey fans throughout North America are eagerly anticipating what has become an annual tradition in recent years: The Winter Classic Game. This year's game will be a huge spectacle, featuring two bitter Eastern Conference rivals in the Philadelphia Flyers and the New York Rangers. This will be the Flyers' second appearance in the Winter Classic game. In 2010 they took on the Boston Bruins in a thriller at Fenway Park. This year's game will take place in Citizens Bank Park in Philly, home of MLB's Philadelphia Phillies.
Though these two longtime rivals never need an excuse to go to war with one another the fact that both are battling for first place in the Eastern Conference should make this game extra exciting for fans. HBO's documentary 24-7 has clearly illustrated just how important this game will be as a measuring stick for each club going forward.
Unfortunately Flyers' fans will not get to watch their captain in action this January 2nd. Chris Pronger has been shut down for the season after suffering a severe concussion. However the emergence of Claude Giroux as one of the game's best players, a rejuvenated Jaromir Jagr, and a host of complementary stars including Daniel Briere, James Van Riemsdyk, Wayne Simmonds and Brayden Schenn should give fans plenty to cheer about at this year's Winter Classic game.
